“Winter Passing”

2 12 2008

The newest single from The Academy Is…, “Winter Passing” is now available for purchase over at the iTunes store. As of right now, there is no set date for a hard copy release, and iTunes has the tendency to get rid of rare TAI… tracks (i.e. “40 Steps” “Toasted Skin” etc.) after a while, so I suggest you pick it up ASAP. It’s amazing. Also, the Butcher did the cover art for the single, and it is gorgeous.

Here is my quick review of the single, having owned it for a brief 20 minutes:

Poignant and strikingly beautiful, “Winter Passing” is a breath of fresh air in a genre that all too often relies on catchy beats and clever song titles. Lyricist and vocalist William Beckett brings a performance reminiscent of his days in Remember Maine: raw, heartfelt and emotional. This is not to say that the other members of The Academy Is… are somehow inferior, rather, all five members contribute some of their best work to this single, one which will probably never reach mainstream radio waves, but is surely more than deserving of nationwide attention.
